How to Back Up Your Phone Photos

Hello, you.

Phones get dropped, lost and left in taxis. Ten minutes now saves every photo you can't replace.

IPHONE

  1. Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap iCloud, then Photos, and turn on syncing.
  3. Your photos now copy to iCloud whenever you're on wi-fi.

ANDROID

  1. Open the Google Photos app.
  2. Tap your profile picture, then turn on Backup.

CHECK THE STORAGE

  • iCloud gives you 5GB free. Google gives you 15GB free, shared with Gmail.
  • If you have lots of photos, you may need a small monthly storage plan. Check the price in your settings before you sign up.
  • Belt and braces: once or twice a year, copy your photos to a computer or an external drive too.

Apps change their menus now and then. If a button has moved, the official help links below will have the latest steps.
